The Houston Texans are now under new management, with a transition that keeps ownership within the family. According to NBC Sports, Cal McNair has taken over as the primary owner of the football team, succeeding his late father, Bob McNair.
In a statement quoted by NBC Sports, Janice McNair, Bob’s widow, expressed her pride in the team’s significance to their family and her confidence in Cal’s leadership going forward. She commended Cal’s performance as the CEO and endorsed his new role as a move beneficial for all involved with the organization, ensuring a secure future under his guidance. Janice conveyed her belief that Bob would have been pleased with this development, and she encouraged fans to look forward to the team’s promising direction, pledging her continued support for Cal and the Texans.
Previously serving as the team’s CEO and chairman, Cal McNair now assumes the principal ownership position, transferring executive authority from Janice. The Texans are coming off a successful season in franchise history, having reached the AFC playoffs in 2023.
Acknowledging his mother’s significant contributions during her tenure as the principal owner, Cal McNair expressed his gratitude for her leadership both on and off the field in a statement reported by NBC Sports. He credited her for laying a strong foundation and emphasized his excitement to lead the team, highlighting the long-term stability ensured by this transition. Cal affirmed the Texans’ commitment to pursuing a championship for Houston, maintaining their community initiatives and fan engagement as priorities for the future.
TEXANS’ FUTURE
In 2023, the Houston Texans secured their inaugural playoff victory in the Wild Card Round against Cleveland. However, their playoff journey came to an end in the AFC Divisional Round with a 34-10 defeat to the Baltimore Ravens. Despite this setback, the team’s prospects look promising with the recognition of two rookies who were honored with the NFL Offensive and Defensive Rookie of the Year awards.
