Breaking: Taysom Hill and four others ruled out for Monday’s game against the Kansas City Chiefs

The New Orleans Saints ruled out five players and listed two others as questionable for Monday’s game against the Kansas City Chiefs.

The Saints will be without linebacker Willie Gay (hand), tight end Taysom Hill (rib), guard Cesar Ruiz (knee), center Shane Lemieux (ankle), and defensive end Payton Turner (knee). Guard Lucas Patrick (groin) and linebacker Pete Werner (hamstring) were designated as questionable.

Werner’s presence on the injury report marks the second straight week a player suffered a hamstring injury in practice days before the game.

Wide receiver Chris Olave ended up playing against the Atlanta Falcons after hurting his hamstring on the Friday before the game. Olave, meanwhile, was a full participant in practice this week and is slated to play against the Chiefs.

Coach Dennis Allen said that Patrick also got hurt in practice this week. He was a full participant for Wednesday’s session before sitting out the last two days.

Patrick was a candidate to start at center with Lemieux out. If he doesn’t, then the Saints would likely turn to Connor McGovern — the veteran who was signed off the New York Jets’ practice squad just two days ago.

Allen also did not say whether running back Kendre Miller would make his season debut. Miller, who is on injured reserve, returned to practice this week for the first time since hurting his hamstring on the first day of training in late July. Miller was a full participant for the last two days, though Allen said the Saints had until Monday to decide whether to activate the running back to the active roster.
