Stefon Diggs has been traded to the Houston Texans, and both the Buffalo Bills wide receiver and the general manager, Brandon Beane, have commented on this unexpected move. Following his trade from the Buffalo Bills, Stefon Diggs has finally spoken up.

In a post on Instagram on Wednesday night, the star receiver bid a heartfelt farewell to the city of Buffalo, his teammates, and the team’s fans.

“I cannot adequately put into words the love and respect I hold for the city of Buffalo,” he shared. “The city embraced me with open arms, and these past four years have been some of the best in my life. I will forever be thankful to all of you and to the @buffalobills organization!

“During these years, a special bond was created with some exceptional men that will always hold a special place in my heart. Billsmafia, we shared so many unforgettable moments over the years. The energy you brought to the games was unparalleled. Unfortunately, good things must come to an end, but until we meet again.”

Brandon Beane, the Bills’ general manager, also discussed the trade involving Diggs, which saw the team acquire a 2025 second-round pick in exchange. Additionally, the Bills traded a 2024 sixth-round pick (No. 189 overall) and a 2025 fifth-round selection to Houston. Beane expressed the challenges of such decisions, emphasizing they are not taken lightly and are not made hastily.

“These types of decisions are always difficult, very tough. They are not made impulsively,” he stated.

“Whenever you make a move like this – as I mentioned, very challenging – it’s with the goal of winning. Sometimes that might not be immediately apparent. This move does not signify the Bills giving up or stepping back in any way. Everything we do is with the aim of winning. We will continue to strive for that.”

Acknowledging the trade of their top wide receiver and Josh Allen’s main target, Beane admitted that the team may not be in a better position at present due to the trade. He highlighted that Buffalo is limited in financial resources for future players, and Diggs was set to earn $70 million from his new contract.

“Are we stronger today? Probably not,” Beane admitted. “It’s a process, and we will keep working on it.”

Beane also mentioned that he did not inform Allen about the trade before it happened, but he did give him a heads-up that a significant change was possible. “I haven’t had a chance to speak to [Allen] since the trade. He’s on the West Coast, so he likely woke up – whenever the trade occurred, he might have been sleeping,” Beane explained.

“I will reach out to him soon. Josh and I typically have regular discussions about various matters. It’s important for me to ensure that if I foresee a potential move, he is not caught off guard. Without delving into the specifics of our last conversation, I did inform him that there had been some inquiries and that the possibility was not completely ruled out.”

With Diggs no longer on the team, the Buffalo Bills face a significant gap at the wide receiver position. Having spent four seasons with the Bills, Diggs accumulated 445 receptions for 5,372 yards and 37 touchdowns during his tenure in Buffalo. He consistently led the team in receiving yards each season, surpassing 1,100 yards in each regular season.

“Throughout Stef’s time here, he has clearly been our primary receiver. That is something we can all acknowledge,” noted Bills general manager Brandon Beane. “It will now be more about distributing targets among a variety of players. I’m not here to claim that we have an immediate replacement ready to step in. We are aware that we are still managing our salary cap situation.”
