“We Have Until May 2nd To Make That Decision” Steelers GM Omar Khan’s Stance On Options For QB Justin Fields, RB Najee Harris
Pittsburgh Steelers’ Omar Khan and Mike Tomlin Discuss Fifth-Year Options for Justin Fields and Najee Harris
In a recent conference, Pittsburgh Steelers’ general manager Omar Khan and head coach Mike Tomlin shared their insights on the upcoming NFL Draft, including their thoughts on the fifth-year options for quarterback Justin Fields and Pro Bowl running back Najee Harris.
Harris, a two-time CFP National Champion, was drafted by the Steelers in the first round of the 2021 NFL Draft as the 24th pick. When questioned about their decisions for both players, Khan refrained from making an immediate commitment, stating, “Yeah, we have ’till May. I’ve said this before we have until May 2nd to make that decision. So, we’ll focus on the draft this week, and I’m sure we’ll have some serious conversations about that next month” (Corey Crisan, DK Pittsburgh Sports).
Harris has demonstrated impressive performance during his tenure with the Steelers, rushing for 3,269 yards, registering 22 rushing touchdowns, 144 receptions, 866 receiving yards, and 6 receiving touchdowns. In the previous campaign, he recorded 1,035 yards, including eight touchdowns and 107 yards with 29 catches.
The Steelers’ management team will continue to evaluate their options and engage in discussions regarding the fifth-year extensions for both Fields and Harris in the coming weeks, prior to the May 2nd deadline.
