Breaking: Saskatchewan Roughriders sign American offensive lineman

The Saskatchewan Roughriders have made a notable addition to their roster by signing American offensive lineman Trevon Tate, as announced on Monday. Standing at 6 feet 4 inches and weighing 295 pounds, Tate joins the Roughriders after a stint with the Calgary Stampeders, where he played four games as a right tackle this season.

Tate brings a wealth of experience to the team, having spent the previous two seasons (2022-23) with the Toronto Argonauts. During his time in Toronto, he played in 18 games, making eight starts at right tackle and two at left tackle in 2023. His contributions were significant; he was part of an offensive line that allowed a league-low 19 sacks and helped the Argonauts secure a Grey Cup victory in 2022.

Before his time with the Argonauts, Tate began his professional career with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats, where he appeared in eight games over the 2019 and 2021 seasons. He also played one game for the Ottawa Redblacks in 2021.

On the collegiate level, Tate had a successful five-year career at the University of Memphis from 2014 to 2018, participating in 51 games and earning 48 starts, primarily at left tackle. His performance earned him First Team All-American Athletic Conference honors in 2017 and Second Team recognition in 2018.

In a corresponding move, the Roughriders released American quarterback Eric Barriere, making room for Tate on the roster.

With Tate’s signing, the Roughriders are looking to strengthen their offensive line as they continue their push in the season. Fans are eager to see how he will contribute to the team as they aim for success in the coming games.
