The Saints Face Disruptions Amid Hurricane Francine.
After a promising start to the season with a 1-0 record, the New Orleans Saints are now facing significant challenges as they prepare for their Week 2 matchup against the Dallas Cowboys. The culprit? Hurricane Francine, which has made landfall in southern Louisiana, the first hurricane to do so in the region since Hurricane Ida in 2021.
On Wednesday, head coach Dennis Allen and the Saints’ staff received instructions from city officials to be off the roads by midafternoon as the hurricane approached. In response, the team promptly sent their players home before the heavy rainfall began.
Despite the disruptions, Allen and his staff remain committed to their preparations, opting to stay at the team’s facility overnight. As the coach explained, “We’ll stay here this evening. We’ll probably find a corner of the room to lay down in at some point in time and get a little bit of sleep.”
According to Allen, the most significant weather is expected to hit in the evening and early morning hours, so the team is hunkering down to ensure the safety of the players, staff, and their families. “I don’t see anyone trying to get out of here in that type of weather,” he added.
The Saints are now faced with the task of navigating the disruptions caused by Hurricane Francine. They plan to practice on Thursday and revisit their options for travel and preparations based on the information they receive over the next couple of days.
Despite the challenges, the team’s priority remains the well-being of everyone involved. As they work to get through this experience, the Saints are determined to stay focused and prepared for their upcoming matchup against the Cowboys.
