The Detroit Red Wings announced today that they have brought up a defenseman from their AHL affiliate, the Grand Rapids Griffins.
The player, who is 28 years old, has started the 2024-25 season strong, with five points (2 goals and 3 assists), a plus-10 rating, and 12 penalty minutes over 11 games. Standing at 6-foot-2 and weighing 213 pounds, he previously split the 2023-24 season between two NHL teams, where he registered four assists, a plus-five rating, and served 19 penalty minutes in 30 games with one team, followed by 10 games with another team that resulted in 13 penalty minutes. Additionally, he contributed one assist in five games played with the AHL’s Toronto Marlies last season.
Originally drafted by the Edmonton Oilers in the fourth round of the 2014 NHL Entry Draft, this player has accumulated 11 assists, a plus-two rating, and 54 penalty minutes in 100 NHL games with several teams, including the Oilers, Canadiens, Maple Leafs, and Ducks. In the AHL, he has tallied 77 points (23 goals and 54 assists) and a plus-43 rating, alongside 130 penalty minutes in 184 games with various teams. His professional career began in the Swedish Hockey League with Djurgårdens IF, where he made a notable impact in the 2017-18 season.
Before turning professional, he played two seasons at the University of Massachusetts, notching 15 points in 63 games, and spent a year with the Dubuque Fighting Saints in the USHL, collecting 16 points in 52 games. Hailing from Gothenburg, Sweden, he developed his skills in the Frölunda HC system and has represented his country in multiple international tournaments.
