BREAKING: Rangers sign another defenseman to two-year, two-way deal

The New York Rangers have agreed to a two-year, two-way contract with defenseman Connor Mackey, with a salary of $775,000 in the NHL, as reported by Frank Seravalli from Daily Faceoff

Mackey participated in a single match with the Rangers this season, during which he engaged in a lively altercation with the captain of the Ottawa Senators, Brady Tkachuk

Mackey has been primarily playing for the AHL’s Hartford Wolf Pack this season, where he has managed to net two goals and set up nine assists, accumulating a total of 11 points and 62 penalty minutes across 36 games

In his 116 appearances in the AHL, he has accumulated 10 goals and 53 assists, totaling 63 points along with 178 penalty minutes.

During his time playing for the Rangers, Calgary Flames, and Arizona Coyotes in the NHL, he has recorded four goals, seven assists, amounting to 11 points, and also received 75 penalty minutes in 40 games.

Mackey played college hockey with Minnesota State University, Mankato for three seasons before joining the Flames organization in 2020.

The Rangers remain a dominant force in the NHL, being the first team to achieve 40 wins this season. They currently lead the Metropolitan Division with a record of 40-17-3 and 83 points.

With 20 games left in the season, holding a five-point lead in the division and trailing the Florida Panthers by just one point for the top spot in the Eastern Conference, it’s highly likely that they will have home-ice advantage for most of the playoff
