BREAKING: Peterborough United confirm signing of highly-rated winger from Brentford

Peterborough United  have officially announced the acquisition of the talented winger Michael Olakigbe from Brentford on a temporary loan  until the conclusion of the season.

The 19-year-old player, who recently signed a new contract with Brentford extending his stay until 2028, will now join his new teammates in preparation for their upcoming League One match against Wigan Athletic, which will take place on Saturday, he will not be able to participate in Tuesday night’s EFL Trophy quarter-final against AFC Wimbledon at London Road, and instead, he is expected to be in attendance as a spectator. It is worth noting that Olakigbe has made eight appearances in the Premier League for Brentford during this season.

He made the move from Fulham, a fellow Premier League team, to join Brentford. Peterborough United successfully outperformed competition from Oxford United and Bristol Rovers, both League One rivals, to secure his services.

In an interview with the official Peterborough United website, Peterborough United manager Darren Ferguson expressed his delight and luck in acquiring him. He emphasized the player’s involvement with Brentford’s first team throughout most of the season and praised his exceptional talent.

The player is versatile, capable of playing on the right or left side, and possesses speed and directness, aligning perfectly with the desired qualities of wide players in the team.

Ferguson mentioned that the player is already familiar with Peterborough United’s style of play, having knowledge of several teammates and previous experiences with Ronnie Edwards and Jadel Katongo in the England squad. The signing is deemed exciting and has generated genuine satisfaction among the team.

Olakigbe expressed his admiration for the team’s playing style, emphasizing how well it suits his own approach to the game. This was a crucial factor in his decision to join the team on loan.

He had a conversation with the manager, and all the things discussed aligned with his expectations, which heightened his excitement to be a part of the team and commence his journey.

Olakigbe described himself as a player who thrives on running at defenders, engaging in one-on-one situations, and aiming to provide exciting moments for the supporters. In addition to his loan spell, Olakigbe has already made two appearances in the FA Cup for Brentford this season and has started a match in the EFL Cup.
