BREAKING: Panthers must dream big as Jets braced for potential Garrett Wilson trade request

The Carolina Panthers, just two years after their NFL championship, are at a pivotal juncture. With a 12-10 record placing them seventh in the Western Conference, there are signs of a downward trend.

Nikola Jokic remains the consistent offensive force, but the team cannot depend solely on him. Beyond needing current players to elevate their performance, strategic trades may be essential to enhance the roster.

Power Forward Zeke Nnaji

Zeke Nnaji’s time with the Nuggets has been perplexing. Despite showing potential with his shooting and defensive versatility, he has struggled to secure a regular spot in the rotation.

In theory, Nnaji’s abilities align well with modern NBA offenses, potentially serving as a floor-spacing big man with defensive mobility. However, he has not realized this potential and has been overtaken by emerging talents like Christian Braun, who has earned a starting position.

In 2023, the Nuggets extended Nnaji’s contract for four years at $32 million, a decision now under scrutiny.

Currently, Nnaji’s playtime is limited to non-critical moments, often excluded from the main bench rotation. This season, his averages are 1.3 points, 0.5 rebounds, 0.2 assists, and a 40.9% field goal percentage.

Such statistics may not attract significant trade interest. Nnaji might be included in a larger trade package alongside a prominent Nuggets player and draft picks. Nonetheless, it appears prudent for the Nuggets to consider parting ways with Nnaji.

The Carolina Panthers, aiming to enhance their offensive lineup for the 2025 season, should closely monitor the situation surrounding New York Jets wide receiver Garrett Wilson. Recent reports suggest that Wilson may request a trade during the offseason due to dissatisfaction with the Jets’ performance and organizational issues.

Wilson, drafted 10th overall in 2022, has consistently demonstrated his talent, ranking among the league’s top receivers despite the Jets’ struggles. His potential availability presents a significant opportunity for the Panthers to bolster their receiving corps and provide quarterback Bryce Young with a dynamic target.

While the Jets are not obligated to honor a trade request, the Panthers should be prepared to engage in discussions if Wilson becomes available. Acquiring a player of his caliber could be instrumental in revitalizing Carolina’s offense and supporting Young’s development in the upcoming season.

“I’ve spoken with people close to Garrett Wilson, and they believe—though I want to stress this is purely their speculation—that he might request a trade after the season. Again, this is speculative and comes from those familiar with him; it’s not confirmed as fact.”

“Wilson was non-committal when asked about the matter. Meanwhile, the Jets remain in control, as he still has a fourth year under contract, a fifth-year option, and the possibility of the franchise tag if they choose to play the long game.”

“The former first-round pick out of Ohio State has shown visible frustration this season. The Jets had high expectations, but they faltered yet again. Reports about Woody Johnson’s management of the team have only added to the sense of dysfunction. It’s understandable if Wilson is questioning whether this organization is the right fit for him in the long term.
While this could amount to nothing, if Wilson does request a trade, the Panthers should be among the first to call. They won’t be alone in their interest, which would only drive up his market value if the Jets decide to entertain offers. Wilson is a proven talent, and the draft always carries uncertainty—especially when it comes to wide receivers. Just look at Legette’s slow start as an example.
However, Carolina has significant defensive weaknesses that also need addressing. If the Panthers were to part with substantial draft capital for one of the league’s top young receivers, it would require a creative approach. At this point, nothing should be ruled out.
The Panthers face a challenging offseason and must explore every avenue to improve their roster. Pursuing Wilson would be an ambitious move, but it’s one GM Scott Fitterer should consider depending on how things unfold with Wilson’s situation in New York.”
