A long-term injury for Oregon seems to be showing signs of recovery.
Defensive lineman My’Keil Gardner, who has been absent from practice for more than two months due to a foot injury, reappeared on the field Wednesday morning at the Hatfield-Dowlin Complex.
Gardner, who missed the last six practices of fall camp, was not fully equipped, opting for training sneakers instead of full pads. He showed clear limitations and did not participate in stretching with the rest of the team before practice. Oregon coach Dan Lanning mentioned that Gardner is “possibly” on track for a return later this season. If that happens, it might complicate his chances of obtaining a medical hardship waiver from the NCAA for an extra year of eligibility, compared to if he were to miss the entire season.
“We’ll wait and see,” Lanning remarked. “We’ll keep evaluating his progress and gauge the situation.” Jordan Burch and Terrance Ferguson both took part in the early practice session for the second day in a row, and cornerback Jahlil Florence returned to practice as well. Burch participated in a sled drill with the defensive linemen, Ferguson caught a kickoff alongside the other tight ends on the kickoff return unit, and Florence engaged in a special teams drill.
