An 18-year-old hockey player from the Junior A Fredericton Red Wings is facing manslaughter charges following an alleged attack on a 41-year-old man.
Tyler Totten is the player charged. Reports from Rick Westhead indicate that Totten, along with three others, was involved in an altercation with Andre Bourgeois late at night. Bourgeois later died from his injuries, prompting a comprehensive investigation into the incident. Totten isn’t the only one facing charges; two 17-year-olds and a 16-year-old have also been charged with manslaughter, but their identities remain confidential due to their minor status.

Police cannot confirm if the minors are linked to the Red Wings due to the Youth Criminal Justice Act, which protects their identities. Maritime Junior Hockey League spokesperson James Faulkner mentioned that the league and the Red Wings are collaborating with Fredericton police regarding what he described as a “non-hockey related incident.” Red Wings general manager Kyle McAllister chose not to comment. This is a heartbreaking tragedy, and it remains to be seen what consequences the alleged perpetrators will face. Ultimately, it’s a complete tragedy for everyone involved: a man has lost his life, and four young individuals may have irreparably impacted their futures.
