Just before the 2:00 PM tip-off, the UNC basketball program announced that Ty Claude would not be in uniform for the game. The transfer big man sustained a corneal abrasion in his right eye during North Carolina’s defeat to Alabama on Wednesday.
Although Claude had played limited minutes early in the season, he logged a season-high 11 minutes on Wednesday night. With Jalen Washington’s recent struggles, it appeared that Claude was set to receive more playing time as he settled into his role.
Having transferred to North Carolina from Georgia Tech, this was a game he was particularly eager to play in. Unfortunately, the injury will keep him sidelined, although there is hope that it won’t result in an extended absence.
In his place, expect Jalen Washington and Ven-Allen Lubin to share the minutes at the center position. If the Tar Heels encounter foul trouble, James Brown could get a longer look during the team’s ACC opener.
