Texas Longhorns Expected To Start Quinn Ewers Over Arch Manning After Bye Week Against Oklahoma Sooners
The Longhorns are anticipating challenges ahead, as Coach Sarkisian indicated after the game against the Mississippi State Bulldogs. A source informed horns247.com that Quinn Ewers is expected to resume his role as starting quarterback against Oklahoma, assuming no complications arise.
This is significant news for the Longhorns, indicating that Ewers has shown substantial improvement from his abdominal/oblique injury. Coach Sarkisian commented on Monday regarding Ewers’s progress with his injury.
“”We haven’t had any setbacks. It’s been steady progress. I think he’s getting stronger and more comfortable and more confident, and so we’ll just kind of stay the course with that.”
It will be interesting to see how Ewers responded this week and next week before the Sooners game. Practice over the next couple of weeks will also be very important. Steve Sarkisian also added:
“We always look to every player, but most notably the quarterback, when he gets injured, we want to pull him in even tighter. “We want to pull him in even closer. When we’re at practice, Quinn is engaged. He’s in every meeting. He’s talking about the game plan.”
Quinn Ewers has participated in only three games this season for the Longhorns, completing 73.4% of his passes for 691 yards, eight touchdowns, and two interceptions. He has also rushed for one yard on six attempts with no touchdowns, averaging 0.2 yards per carry.
In contrast, Arch Manning has completed 70.5% of his passes, accumulating 900 yards, nine touchdowns, and two interceptions. He has rushed for 82 yards on 13 carries, scoring three touchdowns and averaging 6.3 yards per carry.
Before his injury, Ewers was considered a contender for the Heisman Trophy. Now, he appears to be the best option for the Texas Longhorns, despite Manning’s strong performance. While Manning is undoubtedly a future starting quarterback for the program, Ewers seems to be the player most capable of leading the team to a National Title this season.
