Another Northern Illinois’ standout player announced on Sunday via social media that he is entering the transfer portal with two years of eligibility remaining.
In a statement shared on X, he expressed gratitude to his coaches and fans, writing, “My time in DeKalb has come to an end, but the memories will stay with me forever.”
The Aurora Christian graduate stepped into the full-time starting role this season, completing 59% of his passes for 1,600 yards, 12 touchdowns, and six interceptions. Over his career, he totaled 2,568 passing yards, 21 touchdowns, and 14 interceptions with a 58% completion rate. His status for the upcoming bowl game remains uncertain, though he is unlikely to play.
Marengo graduate Josh Holst is expected to start in the bowl game. Holst has completed 58% of his passes this season for 411 yards, one interception, and no touchdowns. He also averages 5 yards per carry and has recorded a rushing touchdown.
The Huskies’ bowl game destination will be announced on Sunday.
Several other players have also announced their intentions to enter the transfer portal. Wide receiver Jalen Johnson, a Metea Valley graduate, declared his decision after struggling with injuries during his time with the team. Johnson played in four games this season without a catch and had 17 receptions for 151 yards and one touchdown in 10 games last year.
Christopher Gore, a redshirt freshman wideout from Homewood-Flossmoor, also entered the portal. Gore has primarily contributed on special teams and has yet to record a reception in his career.
In contrast, defensive tackle Skyler-Gill Howard announced he will remain with the program. Howard, who tallied 52 tackles this season, including eight for a loss and five sacks, stated on social media, “Giving not only the athlete but the person this program and these coaches helped me become to another program doesn’t sit right with me. I’m staying home.”
At the center of these developments is Ethan Hampton, whose decision to enter the transfer portal signals a significant change for the Huskies.
