Breaking now: Miami Dolphins Big Motive, Head Coach Mike McDaniel And General Manager Chris Grier In Collaboration Announced. Have Signed Talented QB To Practice Squad

The Miami Dolphins (2-4) are aiming to revive their season this Sunday against the Arizona Cardinals (3-4), with kickoff set for 1 PM EST at Hard Rock Stadium. Ahead of this crucial matchup, general manager Chris Grier and head coach Mike McDaniel executed several roster changes. The team announced that veteran quarterback C.J. Beathard and wide receiver Tarik Black have joined the practice squad. To accommodate these additions, tight end Hayden Rucci was released.

Beathard (30) was selected by the San Francisco 49ers in the third round of the 2017 NFL Draft. Over his eight-year career, the former Iowa Hawkeye has started 13 games and played in a total of 32 for the 49ers and Jacksonville Jaguars. He has a completion rate of 60.4%, throwing for 3,886 yards, with 19 touchdowns and 14 interceptions. The Dolphins’ pressing need for a quarterback, especially with Tyler ‘Snoop’ Huntley recovering from a shoulder injury, is the primary reason for this signing. Given Beathard’s familiarity with the system and the struggles of the backup quarterbacks during Tua Tagovailoa’s absence, he might find himself on the gameday roster sooner rather than later.

The Dolphins also added former Texas Longhorns wide receiver Tarik Black to their practice squad on Wednesday (he also played at Michigan, for what it’s worth). Black joined the Indianapolis Colts as an undrafted free agent in 2021 and has since had stints with the New York Jets (2022) and the Baltimore Ravens (2023). He signed with the Pittsburgh Steelers in the summer but was released shortly thereafter. Throughout his four-year NFL career, Black has played in just one game with the Jets, but at 6’3″, he offers valuable size to Miami’s receiving corps.

To make room for Beathard and Black, Miami released rookie tight end Hayden Rucci.
