Breaking now: Florida Panthers Announced New Signing Of Stanley Cup-Winning Head Coach To A Multiyear Extension Contract

The Florida Panthers, the reigning Stanley Cup champions, have secured head coach Paul Maurice with a contract extension. Maurice was originally set to enter the final year of his deal for the 2024-25 NHL season. The Panthers made the announcement on Tuesday, revealing that Maurice has signed a “multiyear” extension.

Maurice took over as head coach of the Panthers before the 2022-23 season and led the team to the Stanley Cup Finals in both of his first two years. The Panthers clinched the championship in 2023-24, defeating the Edmonton Oilers in a seven-game series. Since his arrival, Maurice has achieved a 102-61-16 record, including a 4-3-1 start in the first seven games of the 2024-25 season. He boasts a playoff record of 29-16, with his 29 postseason victories standing as a franchise record for a head coach. “Paul has significantly guided our organization to remarkable success during his relatively brief time in South Florida,” stated Panthers general manager Bill Zito. “He is an excellent communicator and leader for our team, with a sharp strategic understanding of the game. We look forward to having Paul and his staff help maintain the Florida Panthers as a premier destination franchise for years to come.” Before joining the Panthers, Maurice coached the Carolina Hurricanes, Toronto Maple Leafs, and Winnipeg Jets. He has achieved 873 wins in the NHL, placing him fourth on the league’s all-time list.
