The Dallas Stars announced Thursday that the club has signed goaltender Jake Oettinger to an eight-year contract extension which begins in the 2025-26 season and runs through the 2032-33 season. The eight-year deal is worth $66 million and has an average annual value (AAV) of $8.25 million. He is currently finishing the final season of a three-year deal worth $4 million per year, and he would have been an RFA with arbitration rights.

The 25-year-old goalie has posted a 116-48-23 record in 196 regular-season games played with a .914 save percentage, a 2.49 goals-against average, and 11 shutouts. In the postseason, Oettinger has a 23-22 record with a 2.46 goals against average and a .913 save percentage.

This season, Oettinger has posted a 3-0-0 record with a .948 save percentage, 1.63 goals-against average, and one shutout. His three wins are tied for the league lead, and the former Boston University star ranks in the top five in save percentage and goals-against average among netminders to play in at least two games this season.

Oettinger is the third goaltender to sign identical $8.25 million contracts this month. Boston’s Jeremy Swayman signed the same 8-year, $66 million deal, and Ottawa’s Linus Ullmark inked a deal with the Senators for four years. This offseason, New York Rangers goaltender Igor Shesterkin will be an unrestricted free agent and has reportedly turned down an 8-year, $88 million contract recently.
