According to a report, Purdue football coach Ryan Walters is likely to return for the 2025 season despite the team’s struggles, as the Boilermakers currently hold a record of 1-10.
While the 2024 season has been challenging, it seems that Walters will get at least one more year in West Lafayette. A report from On3, later confirmed by GoldandBlack.com, indicates that Walters is “trending to return” as the head coach for the 2025 season.
On3 further noted, “Speaking with multiple sources on Sunday, Walters is trending to return for the 2025 season,” although this would likely necessitate significant changes to his current coaching staff.
The Boilermakers are in the midst of a 10-game losing streak, with their only win of the year occurring in the season opener against Indiana State, where they secured a 49-0 victory.
Before Friday night’s game against Michigan State, On3 reported that Purdue’s performance against the Spartans would be a “huge” factor in determining whether Walters would continue for a third season. Unfortunately for the Boilermakers, they lost to the Spartans 24-17 in East Lansing.
Walters has recorded a 5-18 record in his first 23 games with Purdue. The Boilermakers will wrap up their regular season on Saturday against No. 5 Indiana in Bloomington.
