After the Michigan-Michigan State game on Saturday, a scuffle broke out between the two teams. This isn’t the first time tensions have flared; a similar incident occurred two years ago in the Michigan Stadium tunnel.

On Monday, Michigan State Athletic Director Alan Haller reached out to the Big Ten, requesting a review of the confrontation and asking that the Wolverines be held to the same standards as other teams. Michigan head coach Sherrone Moore stated that the Big Ten had not contacted Michigan regarding the matter.

On Tuesday, the Big Ten released a statement about the incident.

“The Big Ten Conference conducted a thorough review of the video footage from the conclusion of Saturday’s Michigan-Michigan State football game.

During the altercation, student-athletes from both teams were on the ground and surrounded by numerous individuals, making it difficult to see the players clearly. The review did not provide sufficient evidence to warrant individual disciplinary action for those near the players involved. Although the confrontation was an unfortunate end to the game, the Conference acknowledges the efforts of both teams’ staff, security, and officials in quickly de-escalating the situation, as well as the responses from both head coaches. The Big Ten has discussed the incident with both schools and decided no further action will be taken.”

Although the Big Ten was dissatisfied with the situation, no penalties will be imposed by the conference. Both teams will address any issues internally, allowing them to focus on their upcoming opponents.

Michigan is set to host Oregon on Saturday at 3:30 p.m. ET on CBS.
