Breaking now: A tragedy has struck Louisville, resulting in multiple injuries and loss of life.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — Fern Creek High School is implementing new safety measures for football games starting this Friday. On Wednesday, Fern Creek families were informed that anyone under 18 must present a student ID from Fern Creek or the opposing high school unless they are accompanied by a legal guardian. All attendees will be screened with a metal detector upon entering the stadium, and once guests exit, re-entry will not be permitted. Masks, backpacks, and other bags are prohibited, except for diaper bags, which will be subject to inspection. Jefferson County Public Schools police will oversee parking lots before, during, and after the events. “We believe these steps will create a more enjoyable experience for everyone attending,” Fern Creek administrators stated in an email to parents on Wednesday.

These measures come in response to a double shooting on September 29 outside Pleasure Ridge Park High School during a football game, where two juveniles were injured. One victim, a 17-year-old boy, was critically wounded and later died after being rushed to UofL Hospital.

Louisville Metro Police spokesperson John Bradley stated that the LMPD Homicide Unit is still investigating the shooting, but no arrests have been made so far. Those with any information regarding the incident are urged to reach out to the LMPD tip line at 502-574-LMPD (5673).
