West Ham United is said to be considering making a move for Nottingham Forest’s offensive players, Morgan Gibbs-White and Taiwo Awoniyi, as per reports from Soccer Net.
Recently, Claret & Hugh stated that there was significant interest in Gibbs-White, aiming to capitalize on Nottingham Forest’s financial problems in case of relegation. Now, it appears that West Ham may be looking to acquire both players in a double deal.
Personally, I have long believed that Gibbs-White would be an ideal replacement for Lucas Paqueta, and the connection to Awoniyi seems plausible.
With Michail Antonio’s declining form in recent years, West Ham is in search of a new striker. Taiwo Awoniyi, having scored 6 goals and provided 3 assists this season, has emerged as a potential candidate.
Awoniyi possesses certain traits similar to Antonio, indicating he could serve as a viable alternative. Although his goal-scoring record is not outstanding, it outshines that of most recent West Ham strikers, given his challenging environment at Forest.
Awoniyi appears to be a low-risk choice, with his abilities aligning well with David Moyes’ tactics, should Moyes continue to lead West Ham next season.
Acquiring both Awoniyi and Gibbs-White affordably would be a significant victory for West Ham. Yet, there is expected to be strong competition for their signings, particularly if Forest faces relegation.
