The veteran head coach announced that he intends to have both Max Johnson and Conner Harrell prepared to play in the upcoming season opener.

Mack Brown emphasized that the quarterback strategy will depend on how the game unfolds, indicating that a two-quarterback system is not guaranteed for the season. If one quarterback performs well, there would be no reason to make a change. However, if the starter struggles, the backup could have an opportunity to step in.

He also noted Hampton’s strong loyalty, mentioning that the player had received offers for NIL deals that were four times greater than what he currently earns at North Carolina, although he did not specify any potential recruiters.

Helmet stickers will make a comeback for the UNC football program this fall, providing players with extra motivation to perform well on game days. The program announced this revival through a recent social media post, and Mack Brown also discussed it during his media briefing on Friday afternoon.

Watch lists for the Reese’s Senior Bowl have been created for nine football players at UNC.

The Senior Bowl is an end-of-season all-star game that provides players who have completed their college eligibility, either through graduation or by declaring for the NFL Draft, with the opportunity to receive NFL coaching and showcase their skills in front of scouts from all 32 teams.

This year’s game is scheduled for February 1, 2025, at Hancock Whitney Stadium in Mobile, Alabama, and will be broadcast on the NFL Network.

Currently, the Tar Heels have four defensive players—cornerback Marcus Allen, linebacker Power Echols, defensive end Desmond Evans, and edge rusher Kaimon Rucker—and five offensive players—running back Omarion Hampton, quarterback Max Johnson, wide receiver JJ Jones, guard Willie Lampkin, and tight end Bryson Nesbit—on the watch list.

Receiving an invitation to the Senior Bowl is significant, especially for players who are not guaranteed first-round selections. Participating in the practices and games can help elevate their status on draft boards. Notably, 43% of the players selected in the 2024 NFL Draft had participated in the Senior Bowl.
