BREAKING NEWS: Steve Cohen’s message on Pete Alonso’s future hype up Mets fans

Pete Alonso, the star player of the New York Mets, is set to become a free agent following the 2024 season. However, under the leadership of Steve Cohen, the Mets have no intention of letting go of Alonso in the near future.

Alonso is set to earn slightly over $20 million in his last arbitration year. While his contract situation will be a recurring topic for the Mets during the season, Cohen recognizes Alonso’s significant role in both the current and future success of the New York team, as reported by Meet the Apple, attributed to Hunter Patterson and Will Sammon of The Athletic.

Cohen stated, “We are willing to have discussions, but he has earned the opportunity to assess his own value. I fully support all players in doing so. Just as we found resolutions with Edwin Díaz and Brandon Nimmo, I am hopeful we can do the same with Pete.”

“We are committed to retaining him,” Cohen added. “He is a valuable asset to our team presently and hopefully for years to come.”

Since joining the Mets in 2019, Alonso has been consistently impressive. In 684 games, the first baseman has maintained a .251 batting average along with 192 home runs and 498 RBI. He boasts accolades such as Rookie of the Year, three-time All-Star, and two-time Home Run Derby champion.
