After reportedly pursuing a trade for him a year ago, the Baltimore Ravens have successfully signed Derrick Henry, the former Tennessee Titans star, to a two-year deal, as reported by ESPN and NFL Media on Tuesday. The 30-year-old Henry will receive 20 million in total through incentives over the two-year contract. The agreement, validated by CBS Sports HQ senior NFL insider Josina Anderson, includes $9 million fully guaranteed for 2024, solidifying Henry’s position as one of the highest-paid running backs in the NFL.
Henry has confirmed the deal on X (formerly Twitter), showing appreciation to “Flock Nation” after reaching terms. Baltimore’s Marlon Humphrey hinted during the 2023 season that the team was close to acquiring Henry at the trade deadline, and now the acquisition has become a reality. This move follows Gus Edwards, a former Ravens veteran, signing a two-year contract with the Los Angeles Chargers, while J.K. Dobbins, the former starter, remains a free agent.
Despite his age and extensive career workload with over 2,000 carries already, the two-time All-Pro Henry has maintained his status as one of the NFL’s most consistent ball-carriers, surpassing 1,000 rushing yards in five of his last six seasons. The former Offensive Player of the Year, known for his powerful running style, has never averaged less than 4.2 yards per carry and led the league in yards after contact in 2023, as reported by Pro Football Focus.
Teaming up with dynamic dual-threat quarterback Lamar Jackson, Henry will play a key role in leading the Ravens offense. His average annual salary of $8 million places him seventh among running back earners per year, alongside fellow 2024 free agents D’Andre Swift and Tony Pollard, who recently signed with new teams.
