BREAKING NEWS: Projected Blue Jays Lineup Following Anthony Santander Signing to Bolster Vladimir Guerrero Jr.

After an offseason marked by numerous missed opportunities, Ross Atkins finally connected with a big move, signing Anthony Santander to a five-year contract. While the later years of the deal may pose challenges, the Blue Jays secured Santander at a very reasonable annual average value, and the 30-year-old addresses a key need for Toronto.

Though not known for stellar defense or a high on-base percentage, Santander brings plenty of power to the plate. He smashed 44 home runs last season and has averaged 35 homers over the past three years. For a Blue Jays team that ranked 26th in home runs last season, his power will be a welcome addition, especially as a source of lineup protection for Vladimir Guerrero Jr.

With Santander now part of the roster, here’s an updated look at Toronto’s projected lineup.

Anthony Santander Adds Much-Needed Power to Blue Jays’ Lineup

Projected Batting Order

Order Player Position
1 George Springer RF
2 Bo Bichette SS
3 Vladimir Guerrero Jr. 1B
4 Anthony Santander LF
5 Will Wagner DH
6 Alejandro Kirk C
7 Andres Gimenez 2B
8 Ernie Clement 3B
9 Myles Straw CF

Santander’s addition bolsters the heart of the Blue Jays’ lineup, injecting much-needed power behind Vladimir Guerrero Jr. The new-look batting order strikes a balance between consistency and slugging potential, setting Toronto up for a more dynamic offensive season.

This Blue Jays lineup highlights two key points right away. First, the team will feel the absence of Daulton Varsho, who will start the 2025 season on the IL after shoulder surgery. Second, if Toronto wants to contend seriously, they need to add more offensive firepower.

Santander is undoubtedly a valuable acquisition who will greatly enhance the lineup. He provides much-needed protection for Guerrero and creates a formidable trio if Bo Bichette can return to his All-Star form. However, beyond Bichette, Guerrero, and Santander, the lineup lacks consistent offensive punch.

George Springer’s production has declined steadily since joining Toronto, and at 35 years old, a resurgence in 2025 seems unlikely. Will Wagner showed promise in limited action last season with only 82 at-bats, but he remains unproven. Meanwhile, Alejandro Kirk and Andres Gimenez, both capable hitters in the past, are coming off disappointing seasons.

While Santander is a strong addition, he shouldn’t be the only one. The Blue Jays need to pursue another significant bat, whether that’s Alex Bregman, Pete Alonso, or a trade target, if their primary goal is to reach the playoffs in 2025.
