It’s no secret that Caitlin Clark is getting, to put it mildly, a very mixed response from the WNBA, players, other teams, the media, and many others.
Despite being the target of cheap shots and the center of attention, she remains the only reason viewers are paying attention. The WNBA is in her possession.
It’s been a contentious issue, and some people have strong opinions about the way the situation has been handled. While some feel it goes too far and crosses the line, others think it welcomes a newbie to the league.
The NBA has now commented on the course of treatment. Adam Silver, the commissioner of the NBA, offered his opinions on the matter.
Not much about basketball is new. Moments like “Welcome to the league” occur. Particularly for acclaimed newcomers. Naturally, though, I want Caitlin to be handled properly and equally within the league. She appears to be a strong player who can take care of herself. — Adam Silver
Silver is aware of the value that elite players have to leagues, so he picked his comments carefully. He recognizes the need for such guys to be on the floor and performing at a high level since the NBA depends on LeBron James and other highly regarded players to draw crowds.
In the end, I believe that this is excellent news for the WNBA and women’s basketball. It’s creating a great deal of extra interest. This simply didn’t start this year, to be fair to the other players and to (WNBA) Commissioner (Cathy) Engelbert. With Caitlin, we are undoubtedly witnessing an acceleration of it. but a large number of individual stars in the league. — Adam Silver
In spite of the contentious handling, Clark has recovered well and found her path. She is averaging 4.9 rebounds, 6 assists, and 16.3 points per game.
