BREAKING NEWS: Kenny McLean is reportedly set to join the Rangers this summer.
Jonny McFarlane, who was taken aback, stated that a deal involving Kenny McLean joining the Rangers was “in the post.”
According to what the journalist for Rangers Review had been told, a transfer for Norwich’s captain was well along, and the Scot is anticipated at Ibrox come next season, he said to the publication’s Morning Briefing on July 1.
The Daily Record reported on June 24 that the Light Blues are interested in signing the midfielder, who supports the Green Bay Packers, provided they can offer him a long-term contract.
The 32-year-old would be a great addition to the Rangers, McFarlane concedes, but he did not see things moving this rapidly considering his age, prospective contract, Canaries importance, and lack of resale value.
In 18 minutes and 30 seconds, McFarlane stated: “Everything I’m hearing seems to point to this being a deal that’s in the post, that things are going well, and that Kenny McLean is someone we should expect to see at Ibrox.”
“I’m very shocked about that because he plays for Norwich, is the team’s captain, won player of the year the previous season, and I have a few friends who are huge Norwich fans and they always talk highly about him.
“You are aware that his performance in the Championship has been making waves; he was a beast when it came to winning balls for them.”
From the outside, it doesn’t seem like Philippe Clement and Nils Koppen should have big expectations for a deal to sign a veteran international who still plays a major role for his present club and has two years left on his contract.
Therefore, it would appear that the Ibrox management has opted to push the boat out or that their counterparts at Carrow Road are being surprisingly accommodating if McLean is given the opportunity to join the team, to which he has previously confessed it would be “special” to play for [The Athletic].
Although there is a relationship between the two teams due to their recent deals to sign Todd Cantwell and Kieran Dowell, respectively, it would still be a major setback for Norwich to allow their captain to leave for anything less than a substantial sum following a season in which he made 52 appearances.
There would be many reasons to support the Light Blues substituting a current full Scottish international and a probable future one for Ryan Jack and John Lundstram, with 21-year-old Connor Barron already being snapped up after leaving Aberdeen and a potential tribunal on the horizon if a compensation fee cannot be agreed upon.
