The Jacksonville Jaguars have decided to retain a vital member of their defense for an extended period. The team officially revealed on Friday that they have inked a three-year contract extension with linebacker Foye Oluokun.
As per various sources, the agreement includes an additional 45 million contract with $22.5 million guaranteed. This renewed contract places Oluokun within the top 10 highest-paid players in his position, trailing only Roquan Smith, Fred Warner, Tremaine Edmunds, Matt Milano, and Patrick Queen in terms of average annual earnings.
In 2022, Oluokun inked a three-year, $45 million deal with the Jaguars and has consistently topped the team’s tackle charts over the past two seasons. Notably, he ranked first in the NFL for total tackles in both 2021 (192) and 2022 (184), as well as for solo tackles in 2022 (128) and 2023 (111). Later this summer, Oluokun will hit 29 years old and is set to remain a key presence in Jacksonville’s defense well into his early 30s. Remarkably durable throughout his NFL tenure, he has only missed one game and participated in 66 consecutive matchups, including playoff games.
The Jaguars are in the process of adopting a new defensive scheme orchestrated by the recently appointed coordinator, Ryan Nielsen, who has previously overseen the defense for the Saints and Falcons. Oluokun is a key figure in a dependable front seven, which now features Arik Armstead alongside returning players such as Josh Allen, Travon Walker, Devin Lloyd, and Roy Robertson-Harris. Following the departure of Calvin Ridley in free agency, the team may rely more on their defense to propel their performance compared to the last couple of seasons.
