An exceptional player from the defensive side has recently been involved in trade speculations. Today, Packers General Manager Brian Gutekunst spoke out regarding these rumors.

Green Bay Packers General Manager issues strong statement in response to trade rumors concerning Jaire Alexander

Based on Ryan Wood’s report in USA Today:

Brian Gutekunst confirms that trading Jaire Alexander is not being considered this offseason. He expressed satisfaction with Alexander’s performance post-suspension and foresees him as a cornerstone of the #Packers defense going forward.

Last season, Alexander and the team agreed to a 84 million extension spanning for four years million was guaranteed as a signing bonus. Over the five-year period of Alexander’s contract at the time of signing, this bonus is spread out evenly at $6 million per year against the salary cap.

How much would it entail to trade Alexander?

So, Alexander’s base dead cap for 2024 amounts to  18 million dollars.

The $27 million dead cap would have a substantial impact. In NFL history, only four other dead cap figures have been larger: those of Matt Ryan, Aaron Rodgers, Tom Brady (due to retirement), and Carson Wentz. This indicates that it would be the highest dead cap hit for a non-quarterback in NFL history.

Adding to this, Alexander is considered one of the top players in the league at his position and, despite a suspension, maintains a strong relationship with the coaching staff. Matt LaFleur consistently praises Alexander highly. With all these factors considered, it is clear that Jaire Alexander is expected to remain with the Packers for the foreseeable future.
