BREAKING NEWS: Canadiens Make Decision on Head Coach Martin St. Louis’ Future

The Montreal Canadiens have chosen to exercise the team option on head coach Martin St. Louis’ contract. On April 17, the Canadiens announced that they have exercised the two-year option on St. Louis’ contract, ensuring his continuation as the head coach in Montreal. St. Louis, who took over as interim head coach on February 9, 2022, replacing Dominique Ducharme, was officially appointed as the full-time head coach on June 1, 2022. Although St. Louis had one year remaining on his contract, the Canadiens have opted to extend it for an additional two seasons, securing his services for a total of three seasons.

Montreal Canadiens’ general manager Kent Hughes stated that Martin St. Louis, the team’s head coach, is not convinced that he has all the answers, but he is open to reflecting on his coaching methods and working to address any identified weaknesses based on data from the analytics team. Hughes believes that St.

Louis and his coaching staff are committed to finding solutions to any issues that arise.Jeff Gorton, the Canadiens’ executive vice president of hockey operations, praised St. Louis for his continuous improvement and expressed pride in having him as the team’s head coach. Gorton stated that St.

Louis is the ideal person for the job and that the team is pleased with his leadership.The announcement follows St. Louis’ end-of-season press conference, where he expressed his desire to continue as the Canadiens’ head coach for the foreseeable future, stating that it is a passion for him and not just a job. He wants to remain in the position until the team no longer wants him.
