BREAKING NEWS: Broncos star open to NFL defection

As he prepares to ink a new multi-year deal with the Brisbane Broncos, the talented Reece Walsh has expressed his willingness to explore the opportunity of playing in the NFL in the future.

While his immediate future seems to be tied to the Broncos, the fullback has mentioned his interest in challenging himself in American football at some point down the line.

Reports indicate that his upcoming rugby league contract will bind him to the Broncos until the culmination of either the 2028 or 2029 season, suggesting that any potential move to the NFL is still a considerable time away.

At just 21 years old, it is probable that he will still be in his peak athletic condition when his next contract concludes, possessing the qualities that align well with those of an NFL player such as remarkable speed, athletic prowess, and presence both on and off the field.

“I’m not entirely certain. I’m still at the beginning of my career,” Walsh responded when questioned by The Courier Mail about his potential venture into the NFL.

“Those guys (Jarryd Hayne and Val Holmes) achieved a lot in their careers before making the switch. I still have many goals I want to accomplish in the sport, but perhaps in a couple of years, who knows… we’ll see what unfolds.”

If Walsh does transition to the NFL later on, he won’t be the first to do so and will be following the paths of Jarryd Hayne and Valentine Holmes.

Hayne left the NRL at his peak to try his luck in American football, signing a three-year contract with the San Francisco 49ers as an undrafted free agent. He played eight games in 2015 before being released by the team. Hayne retired from the sport within six months of his NFL journey.

Holmes joined the New York Jets in 2019 after leaving the Cronulla Sharks. Despite being on the practice roster, he did not play any NFL games and was released after the pre-season, returning to the NRL.
