The Tykes looks set to appoint Daniel Stendel for a second spell at Oakwell
Barnsley seems to have reduced their pursuit of MK Dons manager Mike Williamson as they appear poised to name Daniel Stendel as their new appointment. The Tykes, who borrowed Conor Grant from Dons in the latter part of the season, dismissed Neill Collins almost a month ago ahead of their League One play-off showdown against Bolton Wanderers.
However, after being unable to secure their preferred target, Austrian Dominik Thalhammer, due to work permit complications, the Yorkshire club had to explore other options, with Williamson reportedly among the candidates considered. In the meantime, former Dons loanee Martin Devaney has been serving as caretaker manager for Barnsley, but their play-off campaign against Bolton Wanderers ultimately fell short, and they will remain in League One for the upcoming season.
German manager Daniel Stendel now appears poised to return to Oakwell for a second stint in charge of the club. Stendel previously led Barnsley to promotion to the Championship in the 2018/19 season but was dismissed early in the following campaign.After leaving Barnsley, Stendel had spells at Hearts and Nancy before returning to Hannover 96, where he had ended his playing career, to manage their reserve team. However, he now seems set to make his comeback in Yorkshire with Barnsley.
