Avalanche Secure Goaltending Talent with Trent Miner Contract Extension

The Colorado Avalanche have solidified their goaltending depth by re-signing Trent Miner to a one-year contract for the 2024-25 season. The 23-year-old netminder from Brandon, Manitoba, showcased his skills throughout the 2023-24 campaign, primarily with the Colorado Eagles (AHL) and the Utah Grizzlies (ECHL).

Standout Season with the Eagles

Miner’s standout performances with the Colorado Eagles were highlighted by a 9-6-1 record, a minuscule 2.10 goals-against average (GAA), an impressive .930 save percentage (SV%), and one shutout in 18 games. His GAA and SV% not only led the Eagles but also marked new professional career-bests for Miner.

Versatility Across Leagues

In addition to his AHL exploits, Miner also suited up for 11 games with the Utah Grizzlies (ECHL) last season, posting a 6-5-0 record, a .917 SV%, and a 2.75 GAA. His versatility was further showcased in the ECHL playoffs, where he appeared in 19 games, recording a 9-10 record, a 2.79 GAA, and a .922 SV%. Miner’s outstanding performances earned him the ECHL Goaltender of the Week award on two occasions.

Promising Pedigree and Avalanche Ties

Prior to his professional career, Miner honed his skills in the WHL with the Vancouver Giants from 2017-21, amassing an impressive 48-28-5 record, a 2.49 GAA, and a .910 SV%. The Avalanche originally drafted Miner in the seventh round (202nd overall) of the 2019 NHL Draft and signed him to an entry-level contract on May 27, 2021, which was set to expire at the end of the current season.The Avalanche’s decision to extend Miner’s contract demonstrates their confidence in his abilities and their commitment to developing young talent within the organization. With his proven track record and potential for growth, Miner is poised to make an impact in the Avalanche’s goaltending pipeline in the years to come.
