Shaquill Griffin kicked off the 2023 NFL season as the starting cornerback for the Houston Texans, showcasing his best performance yet in terms of yards allowed per reception on his side of the field, according to PFF. Despite his strong showing, the Texans surprisingly waived Griffin after their Week 12 defeat against the Jaguars, leading to his acquisition by the Carolina Panthers.
The Panthers’ decision to claim Griffin off waivers was largely driven by the need to bolster their cornerback depth amid multiple secondary injuries. The move also came at a bargain, with the Texans bearing the cost of 400K, as reported by Over The Cap.
During his brief stint with the Panthers, Griffin played only 77 snaps, conceding three receptions for 67 yards.
