The New Jersey Devils underwent a coaching change ahead of the NHL trade deadline.
Head coach Lindy Ruff was dismissed by the team, and associate coach Travis Green was appointed as the interim coach for the remainder of the season, as announced by GM-president Tom Fitzgerald on Monday. In a press release, Fitzgerald emphasized the organization’s commitment to high accountability levels in striving to be a consistently competitive team aiming for perennial playoff contention.
Reflecting on the decision, Fitzgerald expressed the challenge of parting ways with Ruff, acknowledging their strong relationship and Ruff’s positive impact on developing the team’s young players both on and off the ice. Currently, the Devils hold the sixth position in the NHL’s Metropolitan Division with a 30-27-4 record, totaling 64 points.
They trail the Philadelphia Flyers by seven points for third place in the division and are eight points behind the Tampa Bay Lightning, who occupy the second wild-card spot in the Eastern Conference. Stay tuned for further developments.
