BREAKING: NC State head coach Dave Doeren announces major commitment

3-star CB commits to NC State

Robert Jones III, a highly sought-after cornerback recruit for the Wolfpack, made his commitment to NC State football on Sunday evening. The three-star prospect hails from Vero Beach High in Tampa, Florida, and following his first visit to Raleigh over the weekend, he decided to end his recruitment process.

NC State extended an offer to the 6-1, 165-pound cornerback almost a year ago and consistently prioritized him. Despite having offers from schools like Louisville, UCF, Miami, Florida, and Auburn, Jones ultimately chose to join the Pack after a successful official visit.

Despite it being his inaugural trip to Raleigh, the upcoming senior shares a strong rapport with NC State’s cornerbacks coach, Brian Mitchell.

Describing Mitchell as a genuine individual, Jones expressed, “He’s just a great guy who has been honest with me from the beginning and has demonstrated a high level of interest in me.”

Initially planning to announce his commitment in May, Jones postponed his decision to incorporate visits to NC State, Illinois, USF, and UCF, with Louisville also making it to his final five choices.

Mitchell and Jones communicated regularly in the weeks leading up to Jones’s visit, forging a strong bond that was further solidified when the Wolfpack assistant paid a visit to his school earlier this spring. According to Jones, NC State admires the cornerback’s height, his field awareness, and his readiness to tackle when necessary. A source indicates that the rising senior has the potential to play both cornerback and nickel positions for the Pack.

Even before his official visit with the Wolfpack, Jones held the program in high regard.

“I recognize their player development and their strong defense,” Jones commented. “I’ve been impressed with what I’ve learned, and they have treated me like family, so what more could I ask for?”

In his junior year, with statistics recorded from 6 games, Jones accumulated 19 total tackles, 1 tackle for loss, 2 interceptions, and 9 defended passes. On3 identifies him as a three-star recruit with an 88 rating, ranking him as the 49th cornerback in the nation and the 59th prospect in Florida. As per a source, the rising senior has the versatility to excel at both cornerback and nickel positions for the Pack.

Jones marks the fifth commitment for NC State’s 2025 recruiting class, holding the highest ranking within the cohort.
