BREAKING: NC State has landed the commitment of a talented, highly sought-after CB as Chase Nixon enters the transfer portal.
The North Carolina State Wolfpack has secured the commitment of highly sought after cornerback from T.L. Hanna High School in Anderson, South Carolina.
After being offered by the Wolfpack last fall, Strong quickly rose to become a key target at cornerback. Despite receiving numerous scholarship offers, he ultimately chose NC State over other top contenders such as Georgia Tech and West Virginia.
Although the official offer came in October 2023, NC State had been actively recruiting Strong for a year and a half. Throughout the process, cornerbacks coach Brian Mitchell led the Wolfpack’s efforts in recruiting the talented South Carolina defensive back.
“Coach Mitchell has been consistently recruiting me and regularly checks up on me,” said the 6-foot, 166-pound Strong. “He’s shown genuine ongoing interest, not just in football but also in my family. It means a lot to me and proves that I am a priority for them. Our relationship is genuine and extends beyond football.”
Strong, a highly regarded high-three-star prospect and the 60th-ranked cornerback nationally, as well as the 12th-ranked prospect in South Carolina according to the 247Sports Composite, intends to make his commitment in July.
Head coach Dave Doeren also played a crucial role in recruiting Strong, expressing his strong desire to mentor Strong at NC State.
“He’s made it clear that I’m a priority for them,” Strong mentioned earlier this year. “Hearing that from the head coach holds significant weight. When he visited my school, that also meant a lot to me.”
Strong is a highly rated prospect, ranked as the nation’s 61st cornerback and the 13th-ranked player in South Carolina according to the industry-generated 247Sports Composite.
NC State outfielder Chase Nixon has opted to enter the transfer portal
A comprehensive list of the Pack9 members who have joined the transfer portal this off-season is now available.
NC State’s outfielder Chase Nixon is the latest addition to the transfer portal from the Wolfpack. Nixon made his official entry into the portal on Friday, marking the first Pack9 player with starting experience to take this step.
Over his three years with the program, Nixon appeared in 87 games for the Pack9, accumulating a .284/.399/.376 batting line with two home runs and 36 RBI in his career. However, his performance saw a decline in 2024, with a .255 average in 102 at-bats as other players secured the starting positions. Notably, Chase Nixon is the son of Trot Nixon and the brother of current Wolfpack infielder Luke Nixon.
In addition to Nixon, several other players from the Pack9 roster have decided to enter their names in the transfer portal for the 2024 off-season. These include relief pitcher Win Scott, freshman pitcher Chance Mako, former reliever Garrett Payne, infielder Robert Nedry, and pitcher Christopher Zupito. Each player has their own unique story and potential impact on the team’s future.
This transfer movement occurs as NC State baseball recently concluded its 2024 season in the College World Series, where the team had to trim its roster for the NCAA Tournament.
