Breaking: MSU Reinitiate Recruitment of Five-Star Guard
The Michigan State Spartans prioritized five-star guard Darius Adams during his recruitment from La Lumiere, a prep school where Tom Izzo has successfully recruited players like Jaren Jackson Jr. However, Adams committed to UConn in September.
Recently, it was announced that he would be released from his national letter of intent and re-enter the recruitment process. Adams is ranked as the No. 23 player overall and the No. 4 combo guard according to the 247Sports Composite rankings.
During his original recruitment, Adams gave strong consideration to the Spartans, so it’s logical to think they might attempt to persuade him to reconsider joining them in East Lansing.
Standing at 6-foot-5 and weighing 165 pounds, Adams will need to add strength to compete at the next level, but he possesses a great scoring instinct.

Although the Spartans have secured a commitment from Samford guard Trey Fort through the transfer portal and Kur Teng is set for a bigger role in his sophomore year, they should actively pursue Adams, who could provide an immediate scoring boost as a freshman.
While recruiting Adams might disrupt the strong team chemistry developed last season and Izzo values loyalty, bringing in talent should remain the top priority.
The Spartans currently lack reliable shooters; the only players who can be counted on for consistent outside shooting are the two transfers, Fort and Kaleb Glenn from Florida Atlantic.
Adams would find an ideal situation at East Lansing, with a strong chance to start as a shooting guard, likely with minimal NIL cost.
Even if he doesn’t start immediately, his arrival would enhance guard depth, which is crucial due to several departures.
It’s not known if MSU will actively pursue Adams again, but there’s every reason to do so.
Adding someone like Adams could position the Spartans as early contenders in the Big Ten and a favorite as they look ahead to next March
