Like many franchises, the Minnesota Vikings face several important decisions this offseason after being eliminated from the playoffs. The most urgent question on their agenda? Determining their quarterback.
A few weeks ago, veteran Sam Darnold seemed to be the frontrunner, especially as rookie J.J. McCarthy was recovering from injury. However, Darnold struggled during the final games of the season, including a wild-card loss to the Los Angeles Rams, where he was sacked nine times. This has led to growing speculation that the team may turn to McCarthy, with Darnold possibly sitting on the bench or seeking a new team in free agency; head coach Kevin O’Connell appeared to hint at this in his post-game comments.
Regardless of who gets the nod, star wide receiver Justin Jefferson, an essential player for Minnesota’s offense, remains unconcerned.
“I didn’t know who my quarterback would be last season, and it didn’t bother me,” Jefferson stated after the game, according to ESPN. “Ultimately, I believe in my ability to perform consistently. It’s not my role to decide who the quarterback will be. They’ll sort it out, and whoever they choose, I’m ready to work with.”
Jefferson has faced similar uncertainty in the past, notably when quarterback Kirk Cousins was entering free agency last year. His confidence in his performance is reassuring for the Vikings as they look ahead.
