BREAKING: Michigan State football earns another commitment from 4-star CB

This weekend, Michigan State football is fully focused on Spartan Dawg Con, a huge event featuring numerous players and over 100 former Spartans, including legendary coach Mark Dantonio.

Amidst all the excitement, Jonathan Smith managed to add a significant commitment to the 2025 recruiting class, landing his highest-ranked recruit so far.

LaRue Zamorano, a four-star defensive back from Corona, California, is ranked No. 245 in the nation by Rivals. This makes him the top commitment of the Smith era at Michigan State. He is also the No. 22 player at his position nationally and the No. 23 player from California.

Zamorano’s recruitment was quite intriguing, as he wasn’t initially leaning toward Michigan State. Official predictions for the Spartans began to emerge only about a week ago, prior to which Washington seemed to be the favorite. However, Smith quickly turned things around and successfully out-recruited a west coast school for this talented player, which is no small feat.

With Zamorano’s commitment, Michigan State’s 2025 class is now ranked No. 51 in the country according to 247Sports. While this ranking isn’t where we want MSU to be, it’s a solid start for Smith’s first recruiting class.

As Smith approaches the completion of this recruiting class, there are now 16 commits, and it’s likely that more will follow. Given past trends, it wouldn’t be surprising to see Michigan State secure another commitment soon.
