Memphis student-athletes set multiple records in the latest NCAA Academic Progress Rate announcement

University of Memphis student-athletes have once again showcased remarkable academic achievements according to the latest NCAA Academic Progress Rate (APR) report, covering the academic years from 2019-20 through 2022-23. Every one of Memphis’ sports programs has exceeded the NCAA-required APR score of 930.

Memphis achieved an institutional APR score of 992 in 2022-23, breaking its previous record of 991 set in 2019-20 and 2020-21. This score also surpasses the NCAA’s standard of 985.

In 2022-23, a record-breaking 13 teams earned a flawless single-year APR score of 1,000, surpassing the previous record of 10 set twice in the past four years. The teams achieving a perfect 1,000 score in 2022-23 include a range of sports like women’s and men’s cross country, tennis, golf, track and field, rifle, softball, soccer, and basketball.

For the multi-year APR score, averaging across the academic years from 2019-20 to 2022-23, six Memphis teams achieved a perfect score of 1,000, a record-setting feat. Noteworthy is the consistent success of women’s golf with a perfect multi-year APR score for 13 consecutive years, along with women’s cross country and tennis achieving high scores for the last two years.

This academic success is a testament to the dedication of student-athletes, coaches, staff, and the university’s commitment to supporting academic excellence. The Academic Director, Jeff Crane, commended the student-athletes for their ongoing achievements in academics, emphasizing the priority placed on academic success within the athletics program.

In addition to the APR, Memphis student-athletes have excelled in their academic performance, setting a departmental GPA record of 3.395 in the spring semester. The university recorded its 22nd consecutive term with a GPA above 3.0 and the fifth consecutive semester with a GPA above 3.2. In the spring term, a significant number of student-athletes achieved GPAs of 3.0 or higher, with a notable number earning Dean’s List honors and membership in the 4.0 GPA Club.

These achievements highlight the university’s commitment to academic success and the dedication of Memphis student-athletes to excel both on the field and in the classroom.
