Head coach Matt Rhule announced on Monday that two Nebraska veterans have expressed their desire to return to the program for the 2025 season. With nearly 30 players set to celebrate Senior Day this weekend before the game against Wisconsin, Rhule highlighted that these defenders are looking to complete their final year of eligibility.

Rhule remarked, “Before I came here today, they asked if they can come back next year. I think the fact that they want to stay in the program is great. They see the success of others and want to follow that path. I couldn’t be more grateful for their commitment and what they’ve demonstrated to younger players.”

The potential return of these veterans would provide much-needed experience to a defense that will lose several seniors after this season. One player has started every game this year, contributing significantly with tackles and interceptions, while the other has faced injuries but still made a solid impact at defensive end.

However, their return presents challenges for the Huskers as they will need to comply with new roster limits set by the NCAA, which require them to reduce their roster to 105 players. Rhule acknowledged that managing these roster decisions will be a difficult process in the coming months, stating, “The roster limits are going to be a real factor. I just can’t imagine what’s going to happen over the next six months.”
