The Huskers have strengthened their quarterback lineup with the commitment of a talented superstar, who shared the news via social media on Friday night. After visiting Lincoln earlier in the week, the quarterback is a key acquisition for Nebraska, having four years of eligibility remaining following a redshirt season at Purdue.
Nebraska’s quarterback situation became thin after the exit of Daniel Kaelin, who transferred to Virginia, and with Heinrich Haarberg shifting his focus to tight end. Currently, the team is left with Dylan Raiola and incoming scholarship quarterback TJ Lateef as their scholarship options. Walk-on Jalyn Gramstad remains on the team and has been a valuable asset during bowl preparations, although his status for next season is uncertain.
Davila, who was a four-star recruit in the previous cycle, joined Purdue as part of Ryan Walters’ 2024 class and spent the year redshirting with the Boilermakers. After Walters was dismissed, Davila sought opportunities in the transfer portal. He has a noteworthy link to Nebraska as Dana Holgorsen, during his time at Houston, recruited him.
The four-star quarterback played at Midland Legacy in West Texas, where he was a multi-year starter with impressive passing statistics, drawing attention from over 20 schools before ultimately signing with Purdue. Standing 6-3 and weighing 233 pounds, Davila threw for over 9,000 yards and 90 touchdowns during his high school career.
During a 247Sports roundtable on the Elite 11 finalists for the 2024 class, which featured Raiola, analyst Andrew Ivins highlighted Davila as one quarterback he wished had been invited, stating, “I believe he’s one of the top pure passers in Texas this cycle and I would have liked to have sized him up alongside some of the other more high-profile names in the class.”
Davila marks the seventh known transfer commitment for Nebraska. Alongside their new quarterback, the Huskers have also added two specialists—punter Jack McCallister and long snapper Kevin Gallic—and three defensive linemen: Williams Nwaneri, Jaylen George, and Gabe Moore. Additionally, they have brought in wide receiver Nyziah Hunter.
Currently, the Huskers are hosting another notable receiver, Dane Key, a former Kentucky wideout, who was visiting Memorial Stadium for the first time on Friday night. Key, who has garnered attention from programs like Georgia, was coached last season by new Nebraska receivers coach Daikiel Shorts. Over the past three seasons with the Wildcats, the 6-3, 210-pound Key recorded a total of 126 catches, accumulating 715 yards from 47 receptions just in the 2024 season.
