Bartlett Hockey Agency has taken on the representation of the experienced defenseman who was traded to the Maple Leafs in 2023.
The negotiation of him in upcoming NHL contract will now be handled by his new representatives.
On Wednesday, Bartlett Hockey announced on their social media that they are now the official representatives of the defenseman for the Toronto Maple Leafs.
According to PuckPedia.com, McCabe was previously represented by Forward Hockey. Notably, McCabe’s teammate, Bobby McMann, is also represented by Bartlett. The agency successfully negotiated a two-year, $2.7 million extension for McMann, which goes into effect on July 1.
McCabe has played an important role as a defenseman for the Leafs and is among four defensemen who were on the roster for the previous season and are under contract for the 2024-25 season.
The Leafs acquired McCabe as part of a larger trade that involved Sam Lafferty (now with the Vancouver Canucks) from the Chicago Blackhawks on Feb. 27, 2023. This trade included a conditional 2025 first-round pick (top-10 protected), a 2026 second-round pick, and forwards Joey Anderson and Pavel Gogolev.
As part of the deal, the Leafs also received a conditional fifth-round pick in 2024 and a conditional fifth-round pick in 2025 from the Blackhawks. Additionally, Chicago agreed to retain 50 percent of McCabe’s 2 million for Toronto, a benefit that will continue for the upcoming season.
Any new contract for McCabe will naturally be negotiated based on his overall cap number, not solely on what the Leafs were previously paying him.
Since joining Toronto, McCabe’s popularity and role within the team have only grown. He will be eligible to sign an extension with the Maple Leafs as early as July 1.
In the span of two seasons and 94 games with the Maple Leafs, McCabe has averaged 20:23 minutes of ice time per game, tallying nine goals and 24 assists.
