On Wednesday, when the quarterbacks and rookies report to Green Bay Packers training camp, Jordan Love will be there at Lambeau Field.

Packers Jordan Love Fails To Crack ESPN's List Of Top-10 Quarterbacks

Training camp for the Green Bay Packers will begin on Wednesday when the quarterbacks, rookies, and a few veterans report to Lambeau Field. Jordan Love, the starting quarterback, will be present even if there isn’t a contract extension, a source told Packers on SI.

Before the first full-squad session of training camp starts on Monday, there is a race between the Packers and Love to reach an agreement. Without an extension, it is unknown or unclear if Love would take part in a “real practice.”

Fortunately, the Packers have over a week to negotiate a contract extension. Undoubtedly, they would like to finish it up to prevent a significant distraction at the beginning of a training camp that will be brimming with anticipation.

After talking about the Packers’ astounding $60.1 million profit for the fiscal year that concluded on March 31, President and CEO Mark Murphy had little to say on the subject on Tuesday.

Murphy credited Russ Ball, the team’s executive vice president, director of football operations, and contract negotiator, saying, “That’s really Russ’s hand on that.”

That was all Love had to say. Love refused to comment on a contract query on Tuesday while attending a youth football camp in the Milwaukee suburb of River Hills. Rather, he made the decision to concentrate on the camp and his Hands of 10ve Foundation.

Love told reporters, “As a child, I attended a camp in my hometown that was run by Derek Carr and David Carr.” That had an effect on me when I was very young. Those were two individuals from my hometown that I really looked up to. I thought it was fantastic. Now that I’m in the same situation as them, I highly anticipate being able to accomplish it. We’re hoping to hold one in Green Bay as well.

Love’s contract is set for the upcoming season due to the one-year extension granted to him last year. A guaranteed $5.5 million will be included in his base pay of $10.5 million.

A contract extension may result in a signing bonus that is ten times his base pay. Although there is a slight chance of injury during training camp, when a quarterback is not allowed to be near defenders, it is difficult to believe that Love or his agents would want to take even a small chance that could jeopardize a contract that is expected to be worth more than $200 million (over four years) or even $250 million (over five years).

Because of how he concluded the previous season—leading the Packers’ playoff drive—Love is likely to receive a hefty salary. The Packers finished 6-2 thanks to his 18 touchdown passes and 1 interception. In his playoff debut against Dallas, he added three touchdown passes.

Murphy expressed admiration for general manager Brian Gutekunst, who made the contentious choice to select Love in the first round of the 2020 NFL Draft. “He recognized Jordan’s potential.” Being a quarterback in the NFL is one of the hardest positions to play.

That’s a credit to Jordan, though, for persevering and improving with time. He was undoubtedly performing at a very high level by the end of the season.

Three quarterbacks got massive contracts this offseason, which contributed to raising the price for Love due to the position’s prominence and the expanding wage ceiling.

Kirk Cousins, fresh off an Achilles tear, inked a four-year, $45 million deal with the Atlanta Falcons. A $53 million per season contract agreement between the Detroit Lions and quarterback Jared Goff was reached. The big surprise occurred when Trevor Lawrence was signed by the Jacksonville Jaguars to a five-year, $55 million contract. That deal tied Cincinnati Bengals player Joe Burrow for the highest average pay in NFL history, despite Lawrence having just finished a poor third season.

“Everything has an impact on everything else, but I think we’ve known for a while that you need a quarterback,” Gutekunst stated during the Scouting Combine. “You just have to work around it; everything kind of starts there.”
