As the 2024 NFL Draft approaches, football fans in Southern California are likely debating between the Los Angeles Chargers and the Los Angeles Rams. However, there is a possibility that the Baltimore Wolverines may also join the mix in Southern California.
The Chargers, led by head coach Jim Harbaugh and general manager Joe Hortiz, have a history of recruiting players from the Baltimore Ravens. According to NFL Media’s Tom Pelissero, Los Angeles has signed Ravens running back J.K. Dobbins, who has struggled with injuries in the past.
Dobbins will join former Ravens teammate Gus Edwards in leading the Chargers’ backfield, following the NFL Draft. In addition to Dobbins and Edwards, other former Ravens players such as tight end Hayden Hurst and fullback Ben Mason have also made their way to Southern California this offseason. The Chargers’ roster is shaping up to be a formidable force, and fans are eagerly anticipating the upcoming NFL Draft.
J.K. Dobbins Provides Los Angeles Chargers High Upside At A Low Cost
The Chargers’ decision to sign J.K. Dobbins is a positive move, as the running back is familiar with the offensive coordinator’s system, having played under Greg Roman with the Ravens. Dobbins has demonstrated potential when he has been healthy, averaging 5.8 yards per carry since being drafted by Baltimore in the second round of the 2020 NFL Draft.
Dobbins’ injury history is a concern. He missed the entire 2021 season due to a torn ACL, suffered another knee injury in 2022 that caused him to miss nine games, and tore his Achilles in 2023, causing him to miss the final 16 games of the season. In total, Dobbins has played in just 24 of a possible 50 games since joining the NFL, which is equivalent to 48%. Despite his injury history, Dobbins’ talent and familiarity with Roman’s offense make him a valuable addition to the Chargers’ roster.
J.K. Dobbins, the running back signed by the Los Angeles Chargers, received medical clearance earlier in the offseason and visited multiple teams before making his decision. Although this signing is a positive move for the Chargers, it does not mean that they will not consider drafting a running back in the upcoming NFL Draft. The team cannot rely on Dobbins’ ability to stay healthy, and adding depth to the position was necessary due to the departure of Austin Ekeler to the Washington Commanders in free agency.
