While Scott Forbes has surpassed expectations in leading the North Carolina Tar Heels’ baseball program over the past four seasons, the program’s current success would not be possible without the contributions of longtime head coach Mike Fox.
Under Fox, UNC made seven appearances in the College World Series, finishing as runners-up to Oregon State in both 2006 and 2007. Fox achieved an impressive 948 wins with North Carolina and a total of 1,487 overall, ranking him ninth all-time among college baseball coaches.
Given Fox’s remarkable success in his managerial career, particularly with the Diamond Heels, it is no surprise that he will be inducted into the College Baseball Hall of Fame.
The induction ceremony is scheduled for February 13, 2025, in Overland Park, Kansas, just one day before the college baseball season begins.
Fox’s career achievements also include numerous coaching accolades, notably being named Baseball America’s National Coach of the Year in 2008 and ACC Coach of the Year in 2018.
He also coached UNC standouts and future MLB Draft picks Andrew Miller, Dustin Ackley, Colin Moran, and Aaron Sabato, all of whom received multiple Player of the Year awards.

As Fox steps onto the stage, he will be accompanied by MLB and college baseball legends Mike Schmidt, Roger Clemens, Mark Teixeira, Bill Thom, Jeff King, Murray Wall, Randy Ross, as well as coaches Woody Hunt and Wilbert Ellis, and umpire Jim Paronto.
It has been a genuine privilege to witness Fox lead the Diamond Heels for more than twenty years. Now, he is set to receive the highest post-career accolade in college baseball.
