Breaking: Knicks sign Moses Brown to an Exhibit 10 contract and release three players

On Wednesday, the New York Knicks executed four roster changes in preparation for their second preseason game against the Washington Wizards. The day began with the Knicks parting ways with Boo Buie, the former Northwestern star, who had recently signed an Exhibit 10 contract with the team.

In Buie’s stead, the Knicks signed free agent center Moses Brown to a comparable Exhibit 10 contract, which the team announced soon after.

Finally, the Knicks released two additional players on Exhibit 10 contracts: Damion Baugh and Alex O’Connell.

The signing of big man Brown is particularly noteworthy, as he has played for multiple NBA teams since starting his career in 2019. He comes to New York with career averages of 5.2 points and 5.0 rebounds in 11.9 minutes per game. During the 2023/24 season, Brown was with the Portland Trail Blazers, where he played in 22 games, averaging 3.4 points and 3.9 rebounds per game. Most recently, he participated in the NBA Summer League with the Los Angeles Lakers.

Brown is expected to participate in training camp, but it’s likely he will be waived before the season starts and join the Knicks’ G-League affiliate, the Westchester Knicks. As always, if he spends at least 60 days with Westchester after being assigned, he’ll be eligible for a bonus of up to $77.5K in addition to his regular G-League salary. Following four roster moves, the Knicks have opened up two spots, bringing their total roster count to 19 out of a maximum of 21 players allowed before the season kicks off later this month. This current roster consists of 12 players with guaranteed contracts and three on two-way deals. The deadline for finalizing the regular-season roster is October 21, when the Knicks will officially determine their 12+3 players for the season, comprising 12 on guaranteed contracts and three on two-way contracts.
