White Sox shortstop Tim Anderson has joined the Los Angeles Angels, according to Bob Nightengale of USA Today. Nightengale shared the news on “X,”

Former All-Star shortstop Tim Anderson signs a minor league deal with the Los Angeles Angels as he tries to revive his career with manager and infield guru Ron Washington.

At just 31 years old, Anderson was once considered one of the top young talents in baseball. He played eight seasons with the Chicago White Sox, winning the American League batting title in 2019 with a remarkable .335 average. He was also a two-time All-Star, earning honors in 2021 and 2022. Anderson played a key role in leading the White Sox to playoff appearances in 2020 and 2021.

Unfortunately, his career took a downturn in 2023 due to injuries, as he played only 123 games and finished with a .245 batting average—his first season hitting below .300 since 2018. His power drastically diminished as he managed just one home run. He signed with the Miami Marlins for the 2024 season but played only 65 games, recording a .214 average with no homers and nine RBIs.

The Angels view this as a low-risk opportunity to revive Anderson’s earlier success. The team has other infielders on the 40-man roster, including Niko Kavadas, Scott Kingery, Zach Neto, Kevin Newman, Ryan Noda, Kyren Paris, Anthony Rendon, Luis Rengifo, and Nolan Schanuel. The Angels are set to report to spring training in Tempe, Arizona, in about three weeks.
